Ongoing Investigation into Dog Attack May Lead to Charges

A Jasper County, Iowa, man had his four pit bulls quarantined after they attacked two other dogs, the dogs’ female owner and the man’s own stepson, killing one of the woman’s dogs and causing serious injuries to the two people. According to WhoTV, the nature of the injuries suffered by the woman is unclear, though the pit bull owner’s stepson had to have part of his lip surgically reattached and suffered 17 puncture wounds to his arm and hand during the melee.

Charges are likely in the case but have yet to be filed as the investigation is ongoing. A man who appeared to be familiar with the neighborhood where the dog fight occurred said it was a very family-friendly community, and he implied the female victim’s dogs were not at all aggressive. For his part, the pit bull owner stated he made every effort to keep his dogs from attacking the woman’s Rottweiler and rat terrier, the latter of which was killed in the attack. A neighbor who witnessed the attack was ultimately able to pull the female to safety, possibly saving her from even more serious injury or death.
