Kettle Users Encouraged to Discontinue Use of Product

Wal-Mart has announced the recall of 1.2 million electric water kettles that may contain flawed heating elements and pose a risk of harm to consumers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission states that the electric water kettles, which were produced by The Rival Company and sold exclusively at Wal-Mart, can cause unexpected burn injuries or electrical shocks if their heating elements fail and burst. To date, Wal-Mart has received seven consumer reports of burns resulting from these faulty water kettles. In addition, consumers have reported more than 70 other adverse incidents that involved these products.

The affected water kettles bear the model number WK8283CUY or WK8283CU on a label that is located on the base of the vessel. Consumers who purchased one of these water kettles from Wal-Mart between March 2011 and October 2015 may be at risk for injuries and are therefore urged to immediately cease using this product.
