Bystander Electrocuted after Small Plane Strikes Power Lines

A pedestrian walking near the area of I-94 and Gratiot in Detroit, Michigan, suffered serious injuries after getting electrocuted by a power line during a bizarre incident involving a small plane. According to the Detroit Free Press, preliminary reports suggest that the plane struck a live power line after the pilot started to descend after he was believed to have started to run out of fuel.

It isn’t currently known if the pilot was pulling a banner or traveling above the Detroit River in preparation for the night’s fireworks show before landing in the center of a street, though reports suggest both are possible. Also injured in the accident was the 18-year-old pilot, although the extent of the injuries he suffered is not clear. The nature of the injuries suffered by the bystander who was electrocuted are also unclear, although they were severe enough to warrant prompt transportation to a nearby hospital.
