Lawsuits: Invokana Causes Kidney Damage and Other Issues

A New Jersey Invokana lawyer notes lawsuits alleging that Invokana causes kidney damage and other serious health issues, and that the drug maker knew about these severe side effects but did nothing to warn the public. The three lawsuits pending in a federal New Jersey court join a number of other lawsuits currently filed across the U.S., and all the lawsuits are making similar claims relating to the dangers allegedly associated with the diabetes drug. Patients who have suffered severe side effects from their diabetes medication may be eligible to recover compensation through filing a New Jersey Invokana lawsuit.

Report: Lawsuits Claim Invokana Caused Ketoacidosis and Stroke

According to the New Jersey Law Journal, the question of whether Invokana caused three plaintiffs to develop a number of serious health conditions will likely be answered pending the outcome of lawsuits filed in a New Jersey federal court. Though the lawsuits were filed by three separate plaintiffs, all make similar allegations, including a claim that New Jersey-based drug maker Johnson & Johnson as well as its Janssen Pharmaceuticals division and Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corp., took action to conceal the drug’s health risks from the general public. The lawsuits allege that the defendants fraudulently and intentionally concealed the drug’s problems from users, and that the facts that were concealed were material to a reasonable person who was deciding whether or not to use the drug.

In one of the three lawsuits, a plaintiff claims she developed diabetic ketoacidosis after taking the drug, a potentially deadly condition that could put patients in a diabetic coma. Another lawsuit was filed by the estate of a patient who took Invokana for about 60 days and then died after suffering a stroke and kidney damage. The third plaintiff also claimed his kidney damage came as a result of his use of Invokana. The three New Jersey Invokana cases join others currently pending in Pennsylvania, Alabama and Ontario, Canada, the website reported.
