Claim: Public Not Warned That Xarelto Was Linked to Deadly Bleeding

A onetime Xarelto patient has filed a lawsuit against 10 companies for their roles in designing, manufacturing and marketing the popular anticoagulant drug. According to the The Louisiana Record, the plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount from the parties to cover various expenditures including legal fees, post-judgment interest, medical bills and punitive damages.

According to the plaintiff, he became anemic and suffered serious bleeding that required hospitalization after taking Xarelto for a roughly two-month period when it was prescribed by his doctor. The ordeal left him with permanent injuries and side effects and he is unable to enjoy life in the manner he once could.

The defendants in the lawsuit, filed in April 2016, include Jansen Pharmaceuticals Inc., Jansen Research & Development LLC, Jansen Ortho LLL, Johnson & Johnson Co., and Bayer Corp., and they face numerous allegations relating to the medication, including a claim that they failed to produce a suitable reversal agent for the drug’s dangerous side effects. They also face allegations of breach of express and implied warranty, failure to warn, negligent misrepresentation and design defect, the website reported.
