Officials: Roof Of The Bus Was Sheared Off
According to katv.com, the charter bus, owned by Vasquez Citrus & Hauling, Inc., was traveling from Michigan to Texas when it collided with an overpass support structure. The bus was carrying migrant workers to Texas. Officials said that heavy storms had passed through the crash area just before the accident but it wasn’t immediately known if weather was a factor in the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is sending investigators to Arkansas to look into the crash. A spokesman for the agency stated:
“The agency is conducting an investigation separate from the police investigation, and will look at safety issues related to the crash. Investigators will focus on driver fatigue and how passengers were protected in the early morning crash, but may look into other issues once they get on the scene.”
State officials at the scene reported that the roof of the bus was sheared off after colliding with the bridge overpass causing many passengers to be thrown from the vehicle. The driver of the bus was not injured in the November 06, 2015, crash and he has agreed to be tested for drugs and alcohol as is routine in crash investigations, the website reported.
