A blast at a trucking company in Corona, California left one 50-year-old worker dead and placed a second man in critical condition. According to authorities, workers at the National Distribution Services garage were in the process of welding together a tanker truck when an explosion occurred, tearing a hole in the roof of the building.

Officials Investigate Cause of Accident
After the building had been evacuated, hazmat crews arrived at the scene of the incident since the NDS building is located within a residential area; no nearby homes were evacuated. Although six to 10 other employees were working near or on the vehicle at the time of the blast, no one else sustained injuries.
Officials do not yet know what caused the explosion, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reported that an investigation has been launched. Additional information may not be available for up to six months. Should OSHA find work violations on the part of the employer, the trucking company may be fined.
Importance of Contacting a Work Accident Lawyer
In cases like this, it is important to seek legal counsel as soon as possible as there could be any number of causes of the accident, many of which could be due to another party’s negligence. While victims may be able to recover damages for their injuries, families who have lost a loved one may also be eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit and seek compensation for funeral or burial expenses, outstanding debts, medical bills and other damages.
In these situations, victims or loved ones cannot simply rely on workers’ compensation or insurance companies to cover medical expenses and a loss of income. A work accident lawyer can help to hold the negligent parties responsible for the compensation for injuries or wrongful death that occurred as a result of the accident.
