New York Mayor Comments on Accident

According to a NBC New York report, one tourist in town from Atlanta compared the crane accident to watching a train car falling off the side of a high rise. The New York City mayor showed concern for those who suffered injuries due to the snapped cable and crane mishap, but expressed relief that the incident occurred on a weekend, rather than a weekday, when there are typically less people on the street.

Questions Regarding the Cause of the Accident

The mayor also said that while it is yet to be determined what exactly caused the cable to snap, sending the air-conditioning unit crashing to the ground below, a comprehensive investigation would be launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The city’s buildings department commissioner said that all proper permits necessary for using the crane at that time were in place. He also said that while he was not immediately aware of any issues or complaints regarding the crane, additional review would be performed as a follow-up measure.
