You may be one of the millions of Americans that store a plastic gas can in their garage or shed for use in an emergency or to fill their lawn equipment. While these people may believe they know everything there is to know about gasoline safety, they may not be aware that plastic gas cans have the potential to ignite and explode if they are not equipped with a flame arrestor. At one time, Blitz was a manufacturer of 150 million plastic gas cans per year, and the company has recently been named as a defendant in numerous lawsuits alleging that its products lacked flame arrestors, and that plaintiffs suffered from severe injuries and fatalities as a result.

An estimated 95 percent of the millions of gas cans produced in the U.S. each year are made of plastic, and while many units were built with flame arrestors, many of those manufactured by Blitz were not. The lack of a flame arrestor has caused catastrophic explosions, severe burns and wrongful deaths. Contact Attorney Group for New York today if you believe that you may be eligible to file a New York Blitz gas can lawsuit.

Blitz Gas Can Overview

Individuals who are filing lawsuits against Blitz allege that the manufacturer failed to warn consumers of the possibility of explosions, burns and other complications associated with its products. Blitz allegedly had received notification that one of its products was prone to explosions, resulting in 75 cases of burns and deaths. Six out of the 14 people killed were children. Since 1998, 1,200 emergency room visits have been caused by exploding gas cans, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Those who have been hurt in a gas can explosion may require weeks or months in a treatment facility or hospital as well as skin grafts or surgeries to help to treat their conditions following a Blitz gas can accident. Consequently, victims and their families may wish to pursue a New York Blitz gas can lawsuit to seek compensation for procedures they have had to undergo due to the gas can explosion.

Victims File Lawsuits against Wal-Mart, Blitz

According to lawsuits filed against Blitz, the manufacturer failed to warn consumers of the potential for burns, explosions and deaths due to use of its plastic gas cans that did not have a flame arrestor.

At least 80 claims have been brought over the past 20 years by families of those who were killed in explosions as well as by plaintiffs who are currently living with the lasting effects of burns and other complications. Plaintiffs have also named Wal-Mart as a defendant in several lawsuit claims, alleging that the company is one of the largest retailers of the products. Wal-Mart agreed to a $25 million settlement in December 2013 to resolve claims, and both companies have agreed to an additional $161 million resolution.
