Risperdal Lawsuits Filed Throughout the U.S.

Johnson & Johnson has been named as a defendant in more than 700 Risperdal gynecomastia lawsuits, according to court documents. Plaintiffs accuse the company of hiding the risks of Risperdal from physicians and consumers to protect the company’s sales, and claim that Risperdal is a defective drug that causes serious complications such as abnormal breast growth in young boys and men. As a result, plaintiffs are seeking compensation from the manufacturer to pay for lost wages, medical expenses for surgeries and treatments to remove the extra breast tissue, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma and embarrassment.

Risperdal May Cause Gynecomastia, Diabetes, Studies Show

Researchers have recently found that older men who take Risperdal and other atypical antipsychotic medications are 69 percent more likely to suffer from abnormal male breast growth than study participants who did not take Risperdal. The study, published on August 6, 2014 in the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology suggested that Risperdal and similar medications may increase the hormone prolactin in the body, which is responsible for lactation and breast development in females.

In August 2013 and September 2014, two separate studies found a link between Risperdal and another disease –type 2 diabetes. Researchers in both studies concluded that children who took the drug were three times more likely to develop the condition than children who were not administered the products.
