Stryker Hip Recalls Devour Company’s Profits

An Ohio Stryker hip injury lawyer notes that two popular hip devices that were the subject of a 2012 recall have put a damper on the quarterly profits of the device maker. The orthopedic technology company suffered financial losses after it became publicly known that a Stryker hip injury could result from a patient’s use of its modular-neck stem devices, ABG II and Rejuvenate. Patients who have suffered severe complications from metal hip replacements may be eligible to seek compensation with the assistance of an Ohio metal hip replacement attorney.

Report: Device Maker’s Spending Up $120 Million as Recalls Take Toll

A 2012 recall involving two popular hip devices proved costly not only for the patients who allegedly suffered pain, tissue damage and other problems with their hip implants, but also for the manufacturer of the hip devices. According to an article posted by Modern Healthcare, Michigan-based medical device giant Stryker Corp. saw a decrease in earnings as a result of the recall of the hip devices, the ABG II and the Rejuvenate hip stems.

The article reports that the device manufacturer’s 2015 third quarter expenditures related directly to the recall were about $150 million, which is about $121 million above where they were at the same time in 2014. A Stryker spokesman noted that financial obligations related to the recall tend to grow over time as the public becomes increasingly aware of it. The recall for the two Stryker hip systems was issued after it became apparent that the devices could corrode and result in a variety of painful and costly medical problems for hip patients, the website reported.
