Arkansan Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident

On April 20, 2015, an Arkansas resident was among two fatalities caused by a chain-reaction crash in Wyoming. According to a report from the StarTribune in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the crash involved more than 60 vehicles, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol said it began with two commercial tractor-trailers. The incident was reportedly the second weather-related pileup to close down Interstate 80 in less than a week.

Over 60 Vehicles Involved

The accident reportedly shut down the interstate for approximately 100 miles in both directions. According to the StarTribune’s report, officials said that the 32-hour closure was due to a combination of the need to repair the road surface, the many large tractor-trailers that had to be removed, the complicated investigation, and a fire caused by 22,000-gallon tanker carrying flammable liquid. A spokesman for the Wyoming Department of Transportation reported that no hazardous materials leaked.

An accident between two tractor-trailers, one of which reportedly jackknifed into both westbound lanes, caused dozens of vehicles to crash into one another. The incident left two dead, and an estimated 20 to 25 others were transported to a nearby hospital, according to the news report. Three individuals were admitted into the facility, and one other person was transferred to a hospital in Denver.
