Claim: Parked Semi Truck Was an Accident Waiting To Happen

The widow and son of a California bus passenger are seeking unspecified damages related to an accident involving a Victor Valley Transit Authority bus and a commercial truck that killed one and injured eight. The Victor Valley Daily Press reports that a tractor trailer was parked in front of the Fort Irwin National Training Center without emergency lights on or traffic cones placed around it when the accident occurred. Additional details reveal that an employee of the military base was told the truck’s presence indicated “an accident waiting to happen,” but that the truck was never moved despite the warning.

Multiple defendants are named in the lawsuit filed in January 2016 by the accident victim’s family, including the driver of the truck, three companies associated with it, the driver of the bus, the bus company and two unspecified companies with ties to Victor Valley Transit Authority operations. Two-third party complaints have also been filed against the U.S. in relation to the case, with defendants associated with the bus company and defendants associated with the commercial trucking company blaming one another for the incident, the website reported.
