Report: Survivor Suffered Burns To 90 Percent of His Body

Helicopter design defects are among the factors that led to a deadly helicopter crash in Colorado, according to a lawsuit filed by the families of two survivors of the accident. According to Fox 31 Denver, several parties have been named as defendants in the July 2015 lawsuit, including Airbus Helicopters S.A.S, the helicopter manufacturer, Airbus Helicopters, Inc., the helicopter distributor, and Air Methods Corporation, the helicopter operator.

Additional lawsuit details allege that a helicopter design defect is suspected in the Flight for Life helicopter crash, and that the aircraft’s fuel tank ruptured upon only moderate impact, indicating it was “not crashworthy” and unsafe. Witnesses at the scene also described viewing the helicopter moving in motions indicative of tail rotor failure soon after it left the ground. One of the survivors seeking unspecified damages now faces permanent disability as a result of the crash, and the other survivor suffered serious burns to 90 percent of his body. The helicopter pilot died in the July 2015 crash, the website reported.
