Georgia Testosterone Lawsuit

Testosterone lawsuits are being filed by men who may have suffered a stroke or heart attack due to their use of a prescription testosterone treatment. Millions of men in the U.S. have used testosterone therapies for low testosterone, or “low T.” However, these medications have recently come under scrutiny following the publications of several studies that suggested a potential link between testosterone therapy and an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and other severe cardiovascular events. The aggressive marketing methods used by manufacturers to drive sales of testosterone therapies have also reportedly raised concerns and questions, as treatments are allegedly often prescribed to men with normal testosterone levels.

If you or someone you love suffered injuries or complications while taking a testosterone therapy, you may be eligible to file a Georgia testosterone lawsuit. Financial compensation may be available to those who used a testosterone injectable, patch, gel, pellet or cream and who suffered from strokes or heart attacks during treatment. Contact Attorney Group for Georgia today to pursue your Georgia testosterone lawsuit claim if you took a brand-name low testosterone drug such as:

What is Testosterone Treatment?

Testosterone is a male hormone vital to the development of masculine characteristics and male growth and for maintaining muscle mass and strength, bone density, red blood cell and sperm production, fat distribution and sex drive. Testosterone therapies are approved for the treatment of hypogonadism, or abnormally low testosterone levels, and in 2011 alone, physicians wrote more than five million prescriptions for these treatments.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has stated that these treatments should only be prescribed to men who suffer from low testosterone levels in conjunction with a medical problem such as chemotherapy side effects, genetic conditions and complications with the pituitary glands or hypothalamus. However, it has come to light that several drug companies have allegedly promoted these medications as a cure-all for depression, low libido and low energy among middle-aged men.

In January 2014, the FDA announced that it was reviewing the safety of prescription testosterone products amid concerns that their use could cause an increased risk of strokes, heart attacks and other life-threatening cardiovascular incidents. A study which appeared in January 2014 in PLoS One reported that these treatments were associated with an increased risk of heart attack in older men without a history of heart problems as well as in men younger than 65 with known heart disease.

Additionally, an early study from November 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that men prescribed testosterone therapies were 30 percent more likely to suffer from heart attack, stroke and death than those who did not undergo testosterone treatments.

Aside from an increased risk of stroke and heart attack, testosterone treatments may also cause other adverse side effects such as jaundice, fatigue, liver damage, mood changes, difficulty urinating, breast tenderness, abdominal pain, frequent or bothersome erections, nausea and vomiting.

Plaintiffs May Seek Compensation through Testosterone Claims

Although testosterone therapies have helped thousands of men who are legitimately struggling with low testosterone levels, plaintiffs are also filing claims against drug makers, alleging that the companies failed to research the products and potential side effects prior to releasing them. In particular, plaintiffs accuse manufacturers of neglecting to adequately investigate the link between testosterone treatments and cardiovascular complications, particularly in patients who are living with obesity, blocked arteries, heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes.

According to plaintiffs, drug makers also allegedly withheld important information from the public pertaining to the potential risks and complications of their products in an effort to boost their profits. Some patients claim that they were led to believe that they needed a low testosterone treatment due to symptoms that drug makers claimed were the result of a hormone deficiency but were actually symptoms of natural aging. If you feel as though you were misled or that the drug maker failed to act responsibly and you suffered from complications, you may be eligible to file a Georgia testosterone lawsuit.
