Jury: Asbestos Producers Caused Man’s Cancer

Asbestos is a fibrous material that is formed naturally in many areas of the world. It is often used in construction materials because of its extreme durability and heat-resistant properties. However, asbestos is also known as one of the only causes of mesothelioma, a deadly form of cancer that primarily affects the chest cavity.

The man claimed he experienced second-hand exposure to asbestos as a child when his father carried the fibers home on his clothes from his job as a home remodeler and builder. Later in his life, the man also worked directly with asbestos-containing products as a contractor, rental property laborer, and when he worked on brakes and clutches as an auto mechanic.

The jury found that two companies, Murco Wall Products and Welco Manufacturing Co., were liable for the exposure to asbestos that led to the man’s cancer. Other defendants settled with him outside of court.

Injured People May Be Entitled to Compensation

People who are exposed to asbestos and develop mesothelioma may be entitled to compensation for damages resulting from mesothelioma, including medical expenses, the extent of the injury, pain, suffering, and mental anguish from mesothelioma, as well as loss of income or ability to work.

Family members of those who are killed by mesothelioma may be entitled to compensation for the wrongful death of a loved one, including damages for loss of companionship or financial support of a loved one, conscious pain and suffering of a loved one prior to death, mental anguish from the loss of a loved one, and funeral expenses.
