A recall has been issued by Hercules Tire & Rubber Company for many of their light-duty truck tires that were sold in Canada and the United States due to the chance that these tires “can experience in-service belt and tread separations.” This means that the belt and/or the tread can separate from the rest of tire, which would create a condition that could be extremely dangerous. The company sent documents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, that showed if the belt were to separate from the tread, this could mean the driver of the truck could lose the ability to control the vehicle. The company is currently trying to figure out an exact count of tires that are involved with the recall. The recall includes tires of 10-ply Load Range E in the Hercules Tire’s All Trac line and specifically, these recalled tires measure 16 or 17 inches in diameter and are used primarily on commercial trucks. These tires that are recalled were manufactured in China and Hercules sold them. The company is presently trying to find those customers who may have purchased these tires, and then a formal notification to inform of the recall will be sent from the company in accordance with requirements of the NHTSA and Transport Canada. Actually, this is not the first time Hercules tires were recalled. The company also recalled over 1200 medium truck radial tires because of concerns that those tires had insufficient thickness of their inner liners due to a machine that was not working correctly. It was thought that with the insufficient thickness there would be an increased risk of an accident caused by voids and sidewall separations.
