Semi Truck Accident Leaves One Dead, Seven Injured
The regional director of the Jackson County EMS service noted that seven people were treated for injuries resulting from two crashes that evening including the one where the woman died. In the car with the woman were two passengers: a 54-year-old man from Norton and 50-year-old woman from Topeka. Two additional victims were transported to from the scene by ambulance.. A second accident caused injury to two people who were also transported from the scene via ambulance, and the director stated that his crews were arriving at a second crash scene that occurred just south of the first semi truck accident. According to the director, paramedics also tended to residual crashes due to traffic backup.
Following the initial accident, the highway was closed to traffic, and the sheriff’s office continued to respond to an additional accident that happened when a northbound passenger car rear-ended a Dodge pickup truck. At the time of the report, it was unknown whether there will be any charges stemming from the accident.
