Widow Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Deceased Husband

According to the widow’s lawsuit, her husband was first prescribed Xarelto in January 2012 to treat atrial fibrillation. Following his taking of the drug, the man suffered a subdural hemorrhage that required hospitalization in June 2012. Medical professionals attempted to stop his bleeding, but the man died.

According to the widow’s complaint, the drug makers:

[C]oncealed their knowledge that Xarelto can cause life threatening, irreversible bleeds … consumers, the general public, and the medical community. The Defendants did not adequately warn of the irreversible nature of Xarelto. Specifically, [the] Defendants did not adequately inform consumers and the prescribing medical community about the risks of uncontrollable bleeds associated with Xarelto usage…”

The widow also claims that the drug makers failed to warn about the lack of an antidote that would be able to stop Xarelto internal bleeding should it occur, and “side-stepped” the issue of reversing Xarelto internal bleeding.

Injured Patients May Be Entitled to Compensation

Drug makers have a duty to provide safe drugs, and to warn of potential side effects that could be dangerous to patients. If that duty goes unfulfilled, a drug maker can be held liable for injuries that may result.

Patients who are injured after taking Xarelto may be entitled to compensation for damages resulting from their injuries. Compensation can include medical expenses, the extent of an injury, pain, suffering, and mental anguish, and loss of income or ability to work.

If a patient dies after taking Xarelto, his or her family members may be able to pursue wrongful death damages, which may include loss of companionship or financial support from a loved one, pain, suffering, and mental anguish from the loss of a loved one, conscious pain and suffering of a loved one before death, and medical expenses attributable to a fatal injury.
