Company Statement: Malware Targeted Point of Sales Systems

On June 16, 2017, The Buckle Inc. revealed that malicious software designed to steal customer credit card data, including account numbers, account holders’ names and credit card expiration dates, had been installed on cash registers at the company’s retail stores. According to a report issued by KrebsOnSecurity.com, the clothing retailer believes the malware was potentially stealing credit card data between late October 2016 and April 2017.

In a statement issued by the company, affected individuals should have already received or will receive notification from their bank with additional instructions as well as a possible replacement card. It is believed that the malware did not collect data from all transactions or point-of-sales systems made during the reported time period. The Buckle operates more than 450 retail stores in 44 states across the country. It is believed that online purchases have not been affected.
