Manufacturers Have Legal Responsibility Against Cosmetic Product Injury

Research conducted by the EWG indicates that one in 12 cosmetic products marketed to black women in the U.S. contains hazardous ingredients. According to a report by CNN.com, those hazardous ingredients have been linked to serious health risks, including risks of cancer, hormone disruption, developmental and reproductive damage, and allergies. In an analysis of over 1,100 products, including deodorants, bar soaps, makeup, hair products, sunscreens and moisturizers, more than 75 percent of those beauty products tested scored “high” on the EWG hazard scale.

The majority of cosmetic products and their ingredients do not need U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, and companies are not required to include risks of cosmetic product injury on their labels. However, beauty product manufacturers have a legal responsibility to produce safe products despite the lower degree of regulations applied to such products. As consumers become more aware of the risks associated with some personal care products, they are given the opportunity to choose lower risk products, the website reported.

How a Beauty Product Lawyer Can Help

Product makers have a duty to provide safe products. If there are risks of harm associated with their products, they also must provide adequate warnings. If a product maker fails to fulfill this duty, it could be held liable in lawsuits for injuries that may result.

People injured by the fault of others may be eligible to recover money for:

  • Medical Expenses
  • Lost Wages
  • Pain and Suffering

The families of those killed may be eligible to recover money for funeral expenses and the pain that comes with losing a loved one.
