Product Recalls for the Week of May 15, 2017:

  • Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies: The Arabella Station Whole Foods Market store, located at 5600 Magazine Street in New Orleans, is voluntarily recalling packaged oatmeal chocolate chip cookies because the product contained tree nut allergens (walnuts) that were not listed on the product label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. All affected products have been removed from store shelves. The recall affected oatmeal chocolate chip cookies sold in packs of 18 with a best-by date of May 19, 2017. They can be identified by UPC code beginning with 247191. The products were sold at the Arabella Station Whole Foods Market store at 5600 Magazine Street. No other stores were affected by the recall. One allergic reaction has been reported to date. Customers who purchased these products and wish to return them can bring a valid receipt into stores for a full refund.   • Meat and Poultry Fozen Entrée Products: Valley Innovative Services is recalling approximately 130,071 pounds of meat and poultry frozen entrée products which included a non-meat ingredient (waffles) that was recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The heat-treated, not fully cooked, not shelf stable chicken and waffle, turkey ham & waffle, and oatmeal with waffle and sausage patty frozen entrée items were produced and packaged from May 2016 through May 2017. A full list of recalled products can be found here. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 18350” on the packaging label. These items were shipped to institutions nationwide. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Recall Date: 5/12/2017
  • La Nica Cheese Products: La Nica Products, Inc. is recalling six thousand pounds of cheese, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The Queso Duro Blando / Hard White Cheese (Morolique) was distributed only in the state of California through supermarkets and other retail stores. Products subject to recall include Quesos De La Costa, Queso Duro Blando and Hard Soft Cheese. The name is surrounded by an orange border and there is a small cow on the label. It is a white cheese. The cheese has an expiration date of August 31, 2017 and a UPC code of 8 52304 74023 2. The lot number of this cheese is 254. Consumers who have purchased “Quesos de la Costa Arrocero Queso Duro Blando Hard White Morolique” are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/12/2017
  • Fresh Spinach: The Horton Fruit Co., Inc. (“Horton”) is voluntarily recalling select bags and containers of fresh spinach because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.   The company was alerted to the potential of contamination by their supplier partners, and conducting a subsequent internal investigation. The products were distributed in North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky and West Virginia and distributed through retail stores, wholesale and foodservice distributors.  Specific information on how to identify the product can be found here. Consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/12/2017
  • Northern Lights Science Kits: Little Passports Inc. is recalling its Science Expedition Northern Lights science kits because the battery packs included in the science kits can overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers. This recall involves the Science Expeditions Northern Lights science kits with “Make an Electromagnet” and “Aurora in a Box” experiments that use battery packs. The kits were sent to Little Passports subscribers in February 2017. The “Magnet Lab” experiment and comic book included in the Science Expeditions Northern Lights kit do not use battery packs and can still be used. Recalled kits were sold online at www.littlepassports.com to Little Passports subscribers in February 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the battery packs included in the kits and contact Little Passports for a Crystal Growing Kit replacement product or coupon for $12 off any kit in Little Passports’ online store. The firm is contacting all known purchasers directly. Recall Date: 5/12/2017
  • SWIFT Wireless Gateway: Honeywell International Inc. is recalling SWIFT wireless gateway sold with fire alarm systems because the smoke detectors connected to the gateway can fail to activate properly when significant environmental contaminants are present, posing a risk that consumers will not be alerted to a fire. This recall involves the SWIFT wireless gateway sold with fire alarm systems. The gateways are round, white and measure eight inches in diameter. The gateways are the bridge between the fire alarm control panel and the detectors. These systems are used primarily for indoor or covered areas in commercial buildings, such as in office buildings, hotels, industrial facilities, and apartment complexes. The model number and date codes are printed on the back of the gateway on a white label on the circuit board. The gateways have the following brand names, model numbers and date codes. Brands and models affected by the recall include NOTIFIER, Model FWSG; Fire-Lite, Model W-GATE; Gamewell-FCI, Model VW-GATE; Honeywell, Model XLS-WSG; and Johnson Controls, Model JFWSG. All affected brands and models have the date code range 10 13 14 through 12 15 16. Recalled units were sold at Honeywell distributors nationwide between October 2014 and December 2016. Consumers are encouraged to contact Honeywell for an update of the firmware on the SWIFT wireless gateway(s) installed on the system. Commercial building customers should continue using the recalled detectors until the firmware is updated. Recall Date: 5/12/2017
  • Green Chile Bean Burrito Products: Green Chile Concepts, LLC is voluntarily recalling certain Green Chile Food Company brand burritos sold frozen, refrigerated and/or served hot in certain convenience stores, vending machines, and retail locations nationwide because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The products were shipped to distribution centers in California, Illinois, Oregon, and South Dakota. The product was distributed in packages of 12 units per master case under the following labels and codes with a master case production date between March 8 and May 10, 2017, and individual item codes with Julian dates between 17067 and 17130.   • Chef Luca’s Lasagna Alforno Baked Cheese Lasagna: Italian Gluten Free Food CL is recalling its 15 ounce packages of “Chef Luca’s LASAGNA AL FORNO BAKED CHEESE LASAGNA” food because they may contain undeclared egg. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life- threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The product comes in a 15 ounce – (425 grams), Black and Goldish Yellow in color cardboard / Paper sleeve with a picture of the product and stating Chef Luca’s LASAGNA AL FORNO “Gluten Free” and “All Natural,” No Preservatives, Lower Calorie, Lower Cholesterol with a 15 ounce (425 grams) portion size marked with the following lot number(s): Product Code: CL-LAS, Lot Number 0387 – Expiration Date: (02/07/2018), Lot Number 0527 – Expiration Date: (02/21/2018), Lot Number 0547 – Expiration Date: (02/23/2018), and Lot Number 1147 – Expiration Date: (04/24/2018). Recalled products were distributed in MA, CT, NY, NJ, VA, DE, PA, MD, DC through Distributors and Retail stores: “KeHe Distributors, River Valley Foods, Wegmans, H.E.B. stores, and Uncle Giuseppe’s” retail stores. Consumers who have purchased 15 ounce packages of “Chef Luca’s LASAGNA AL FORNO – BAKED CHEESE LASAGNA” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/15/2017
  • Queso Fresco/Whole Milk Cheese: Global Garlic Inc. is recalling 227 units of Queso Fresco/ Whole Milk Cheese, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Queso Fresco / Whole Milk Cheese was distributed through retail stores in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Miami, FL. And Fairdale, KY. Queso Fresco / Whole Milk 16oz plastic bag. “DE MI PAIS” brand with September 19,2017 expiration date. Consumers who have purchased “DE MI PAIS” Queso Fresco / Whole Milk Cheese are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/15/2017
  • VanMoof Bicycles: VanMoof USA Inc. is recalling its B and S series bicycles because the front fender bolts do not break when an object gets stuck between the front tire and the front fender/mud guard, posing fall and impact hazards. The firm has received two reports of riders injured when road objects created an obstruction between the bike fender and the front wheel. In both instances, the fender remained intact, because the stainless steel fender bolts did not break off. One instance resulted in bruises, scratches and a broken arm. In the second instance, the rider suffered a concussion. A complete list of recalled bicycles can be found here. They were sold at Aika Trading, Calhoun Cycle, Orange Pedal, The Garage OTR, Seattle E-bike and other bicycle storesnationwide and online from January 2014 through December 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact VanMoof to receive free replacement nylon bolts for the front fender and installation instruction. The repair can be completed by the consumer without assistance. Recall Date: 5/15/2017
  • Coffee Presses: Bradshaw International Inc. is recalling its coffee presses because the glass beakers can break during normal use, posing a laceration hazard to users. This recall involves Bialetti coffee presses with a glass beaker in a plastic frame with a stainless steel metal plunger. The coffee presses were sold in blue, green, black and red and hold eight cups of water. The plunger is stainless steel metal and mesh with a polypropylene lid and handle in matching color to the frame. The coffee press exterior measures 6.5 inches by 9.5 inches and the interior of the glass beaker measures 7 inches by 3.75 inches. The polypropylene lid has 14 vents in the bottom of the rim to strain fluids, while pouring. The Bialetti icon and logo are printed on each side of the frame and “Bialetti” is printed on the top of the plunger. The date stamp of March 2017 or earlier is printed on the underside of the plunger in a dial date code. (Dial date codes are read from the center of the circle outward. The two numbers in the center of the circle represent the year of production. The arrow in the circle points to the month of production on the outer circle.) Recalled coffee presses were sold at Fred Meyer, Kroger, Ross, Target, HomeGoods and other specialty and grocery stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from July 2016 through March 2017. Consumers are encouraged to stop using the recalled coffee presses and contact Bradshaw International for a free replacement coffee press. Recall Date: 5/16/2017
  • Kiteboard Control Systems: Cabrinha Kites, a subsidiary of Pryde Group Americas, is recalling Cabrinha Kiteboard control systems because the point of connection between the lower front line with the landing line can break, causing a loss of kite control, posing injury and fall hazards. The component subject to recall is the stainless steel POWER BRACKET SEAT (PBS) and the lower front line that connects with the landing line on the Overdrive 1X Recoil with Fireball or Quickloop, Overdrive 1X Trimlite with Fireball or Quickloop, 1X Trimlite with Fireball or Quickloop and the Chaos 1X Control system models. The stainless steel PBS is mounted on the top of the depower mainline between one of the lower front lines and the landing line. The PBS is used as a stopping point for one of the flying lines while allowing the activation of the 1X security landing line. Model numbers included in the recall are: KS7CSODFR, KS7CSODQR, KS7CSODFC, KS7CSODQC, KS7CSFXFC, KS7CSFXQC and KS7CSCHFX. Only models with “2017 1X” printed on a cloth tab attached to the bungee line restrainers at the end of the bars are included in this recall. Recalled products were sold exclusively at Watersports stores nationwide from July 2016 through March 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled kiteboard control systems and return them to the place of purchase to receive a free replacement kit with instructional guide.   • Colby Jack Cheese: Henning’s Cheese announced that it is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of its Colby Jack cheese due to a temporary pasteurizer malfunction. Due to the malfunction, verification of proper pasteurization is not possible. No illnesses have been reported related to consumption of this product and no other Henning’s Cheese products are affected by this recall. About 1,000 pounds of product were distributed statewide. Consumers should only be concerned with Colby Jack cheese sold on or after April 10, 2017 in one and two pound blocks. The product will contain a date code of 1007 on a small label on the bottom of the cheese block. Consumers who have purchased Henning’s Colby Jack cheese from retail stores are urged to return it to the place of purchase or to Henning’s Cheese store for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/17/2017
  • Plush Toys: Douglas Company Inc. is recalling plush toys because the plastic eyes on the plush toys can detach, posing a choking hazard. This recall involves the Oliver™ the Bear, Chewie™ the English Bulldog, and Charlotte™ the Fox model plush toys. Oliver the Bear is a brown and tan stuffed bear, with a blue t-shirt that reads “Oliver the Bear” and a red, removable cape. Chewie is a stuffed, brown and white English Bulldog with a blue patch sewn on the chest that reads “Chewie.”  Charlotte is a stuffed, brown, black and white Fox with removable blue cape.  Each of these toys has a sewn-in label with the words “DOUGLAS® the cuddle toy.” Recalled toys were sold at Specialty toy and gift stores nationwide from July 2014 to April 2017 and distributed byUnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) to various individuals and organizations. Consumers should immediately take the recalled plush toys away from young children and contact the firm to receive a free replacement product or a full refund. Recall Date: 5/17/2017
  • Chalk Note Mugs: Pier 1 Imports Inc. is recalling its Chalk Note Mugs because the mugs can crack when filled with hot liquid, posing a burn hazard to users. This recall involves the Pier 1 Imports Chalk Note Mugs that can be written on with chalk. The stoneware mugs were sold in black and measure 5.25 inches tall by 5 inches in diameter. “Stoneware” and “Pier 1 Imports” are printed on the bottom of the mug. Recalled mugs were sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores nationwide and online at Pier1.com from March 2016 through April 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mugs and contact Pier 1 Imports for a full refund or merchandise credit. Recall Date: 5/18/2017
  • Ceramic Travel Mugs: Michaels Stores Procurement Co. Inc. (MSPCI), a subsidiary of The Michaels Companies Inc. is recalling ceramic travel mugs because the mug’s lid does not fit securely and can cause liquids to leak from the bottom of the lid when tilted, posing a burn hazard. Also, the mug does not have a silicone hand wrap so the consumer could burn their hand on the side walls of the mug. This recall involves Michaels private brand Celebrate It™ ceramic travel mugs with a silicone lid. The mugs measure about 6.5 inches tall and hold about 16 ounces of liquid. The travel mugs have four designs: Motherhood the greatest adventure (lime green lid), MOM (lime green lid), Blue floral (turquoise lid), Pink floral (pink lid). Only ceramic mugs with SKU number 508992 and UPC code 886946619458 printed on a label on the bottom of the mugs are included in the recall. Recalled mugs were sold at Michael’s stores nationwide from March 2017 through April 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mugs and return them to any Michaels store for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/18/2017
  • Fish Cake, Fish Ball and Fish Tofu: Wang Globalnet is recalling 5 Cases of Fish Cake (Item#:13125), 2 cases of Fish Ball (Item#: 20072), 186 Cases of Fish Cake (Item#: 12842), 4 Cases of Fish Cake (Item#: 15731), and 3 Cases of Fish Tofu (Item#: 17185) because it may contain undeclared egg and wheat. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs and wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled “Fish Cake, Fish Ball, Fish Tofu” were distributed to NY, NJ, PA, MA, ME, VA, MD, DE, CT, RI, and NH retail stores. Products subject to the recall include: Fish Cake in Polybag 20/1LB. Brand Name: Wang. Item#: 13125. Expiration Date: 03/09/2019. UPC Code#: 087703131256; Fish Ball in Polybag 24/12OZ. Brand Name: Wang. Item#: 20072. Expiration Date: 03/15/2019. UPC Code#: 087703200722; Fish Cake in Polybag 10/2.2LBS Brand Name: Wang. Item#: 12842. Expiration Date: 03/17/2019 UPC Code#: 087703128422; Fish Cake in Polybag 10/930G. Brand Name: Wang. Item#: 15731 Expiration Date: 03/06/2019 UPC Code#: 087703157316; and Fish Tofu in Polybag 40/240G. Brand Name: Wang. Item#: 17185 Expiration Date: 06/28/2018 UPC Code#: 087703171855. The recall was initiated after it was discovered by FDA that eggs and wheat containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of eggs and wheat. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes. Consumers who have purchased the affected products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/18/2017
  • Electric Ranges: Arçelik A.S. and Beko US are recalling Blomberg and Summit electric ranges because the electric ranges can become energized, posing electric shock and electrocution hazards to a consumer who touches the range. In August 2016, a 52-year-old professional plumber from Portsmouth, New Hampshire died from electrocution when he came in contact with an energized range and a grounded object. This recall involves Blomberg BERU 24200 SS, BERU 24100 SS and Summit CLRE24 24-inch wide freestanding glass top electric ranges. The ranges were sold in stainless steel and black. A label on the lower frame of the range inside the over door has the brand name “Blomberg” or “Summit,” the model name and number BERU 24200 SS, BERU 24100 SS or CLRE24 and a 10-digit serial number. A complete list of serial numbers included in the recall can be found here. The ranges were sold by AJ Madison, State Street Discount and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from October 2012 through March 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ranges, and avoid all direct contact with the product until the electricity supply is shut off.   • Krusher Push Scooters: Pulse Performance Products, a division of Bravo Sports, is recalling Krusher Push scooters because the down tube can break, posing a fall hazard to the rider. This recall involves Pulse Krusher Pro Freestyle scooters with factory code 083WY, item number 164257 and date code 10-8-2016 or earlier. The factory code, item number and date code can be found on a label printed on the underside of the scooter deck. The 30-inch high scooters were sold in blue and have the words “PULSE PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS” printed on the down tube. Recalled scooters were sold at Walmart and Westminster Trading stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com from June 2016 through May 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled scooters and contact Pulse Performance Products for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/18/2017
  • Packaged Produce: BrightFarms is initiating a voluntary recall of packaged produce sold in Giant Food stores due to the potential presence of metal as a result of construction at its Elkwood, Virginia (Culpeper County) greenhouse farm. The affected BrightFarms branded products are sold at the Giant Landover, Giant Carlisle, Peapod and Martin’s Food Markets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. Affected produce may also have been distributed via the Capital Area Food Bank. The recall includes the following salad products packaged in clear, plastic clamshells with best by dates on the package of: 5/22/17, 5/23/17, 5/24/17, 5/25/17, 5/26/17: BrightFarms Baby Spinach (4 oz. package), BrightFarms Spring Mix (4 oz. and 8 oz. package), BrightFarms Spinach Blend (4 oz. package), BrightFarms Baby Kale (3 oz. package), BrightFarms Arugula (4 oz. and 8 oz. package), BrightFarms Mixed Greens (4 oz. package),and BrightFarms Baby Romaine (4 oz. and 8 oz. package). The recall also includes the following basil products, packaged in clear plastic clamshells with best by dates: 5/18/17, 5/19/17, 5/20/17, 5/21/17, 5/22/17, 5/23/17: BrightFarms Basil (.75 oz. package), BrightFarms Thai Basil (.75 oz. package), and BrightFarms Lemon Basil (.75 oz. package). Consumers who have purchased the affected products should discard it or return the product to its place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 5/18/2017
  • Beef and Pork Products: The Osso Good Co. is recalling approximately 1,210 pounds of beef and pork bone broth products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The beef bone broth and spicy pork bone broth products were produced and packaged between May 5, 2016 and May 5, 2017. Products subject to recall include 20-fluid ounce individual plastic pouch containing “THE OSSO GOOD CO, BEEF BONE BROTH, GRASS FED, PASTURE RAISED, NON GMO, HORMONE FREE;” 20-fluid ounce individual plastic pouch containing “THE OSSO GOOD CO, SPICY PORK BONE BROTH Pastured pork bone broth with a touch of heat;” and 20-fluid ounce individual plastic pouch containing “THE OSSO GOOD CO, SIMPLY BEEF BROTH, AIP COMPLIANT BONE BROTH, GRASS FED, PASTURE RAISED, NON GMO, HORMONE FREE.” The products subject to recall do not bear the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Recall Date: 5/18/2017
