Product Recalls for the Week of May 30, 2016:

  • Southwire Voltage Detectors Recall: This recall involves Southwire non-contact voltage detectors with model numbers 40110N and 40120N. Voltage detectors alert users to the presence of electric current running through electrical wires. The voltage detectors can give a false “no voltage” reading when being used to test live wires for electric current, posing shock, electrocution and burn hazards to consumers. The recalled voltage detectors are cylindrical shaped, about six inches long and about two inches in circumference. They are brownish gold in color with a black center insert. “Southwire,” the model number and the CE and UL listing symbols are printed on the voltage detectors. They have red LED lights to indicate the presence of live electric current. Model 40110N detects voltage from 100 to 1,000 VAC. Model 40120N detects voltage from 24 to 1,000 VAC. The detectors were sold at Lowe’s and other home and hardware stores nationwide and online at lowes.com and other websites from June 2013 through February 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled voltage detectors and contact Southwire for instructions on returning them for a free replacement voltage detector. Recall Date: 06/01/2016
  • Broan-NuTone Ventilation Fans Recall: Broan-NuTone LLC is recalling its L500 series fans designed to circulate air in and out of a home or building. The fan motor can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The fans were sold in nine brands and have the model information printed on the specification label affixed to the blower assembly. A list of fans that are included in the recall may be found here. The fans were sold at heating, plumbing and building supply retailers nationwide and online from February 2016 through March 2016. Consumers should immediately turn off and unplug the recalled fans and contact Broan to receive a free replacement fan. Recall Date: 05/31/2016
  • Mirka Random Orbital Sanders Recall: This recall involves 3-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch Mirka CEROS compact electric random orbital sanders. The sanders can short circuit, posing a fire hazard. The sanders are yellow and black with “Mirka” on the front. A speed control lever is on the top of the sanders and a vacuum hose connector on the rear. The recalled sanders came with either a cardboard box or plastic carrying case, a 12-foot power cord, DC transformer (only in certain sanders), a wrench, a multi-hole backup pad and assorted abrasives. The 3-inch sander is model CEROS 325. The 5-inch sander is model CEROS 550. The 6-inch sander is model CEROS 650. Model names are on a white sticker on the back of the sander housing beneath the hand grip, and in certain sanders, the serial number can only be found on this sticker. Serial numbers are engraved on the side of the sander housing just above the dust shroud. A list of the serial numbers associated with the recalled sanders may be fund here. The sanders were sold by various distributors and independent retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com and BeaverTools.com from January 2013 through March 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled sanders, unplug them and contact Mirka for a free replacement sander. Recall Date: 05/31/2016
  • Traxxas X-Maxx Monster Trucks Speed Controls Recall: The recalled VXL-6s electronic speed control #3365 is sold installed in the Traxxas X-Maxx Monster Truck, model 77076-04, and is also sold separately. The electronic speed control is the electronic control module that manages the throttle control (speed), directional control (forward or reverse) and braking of the drive motor in the truck. Vehicle modification or electronic failure can result in a short circuit, posing a fire hazard. The truck is 30 inches long, 22 inches wide and 4 inches above the ground. The truck comes in two colors, red and blue. It weighs approximately 20 pounds. The electronic speed control is located near the center of the truck in a vented blue case approximately 2 inches wide, 2 inches long and 2 inches tall. Traxxas XMaxx is displayed on the side of the truck. The recalled products were sold at Hobby Town and other hobby stores and Traxxas dealers nationwide from November 2015 through January 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled trucks and return their electronic speed control to their dealer for a free firmware upgrade and installation of a new fusible link, or contact Traxxas customer support to return the electronic speed control and have a firmware upgrade and free fusible link installation.   • Kashi Granola Bars Recall: Kashi Company announced a voluntary recall of Kashi® Trail Mix Chewy Granola Bars and Bear Naked® Soft Baked Granola, Cinnamon + Sunflower Butter in the continental United States because they contain ingredients made from sunflower seeds distributed by their supplier, SunOpta, that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The recall is limited to Kashi Trail Mix Chewy Granola Bars and Bear Naked Soft Baked Granola, Cinnamon + Sunflower Butter packed in two sizes. The recalled products were distributed throughout the continental United States. People who have purchased these products should discard them and contact Kashi for a full refund. Recall Date: 05/31/2016
  • Gold Medal, Wondra, and Signature Kitchens Flour Recall: General Mills is collaborating with health officials to investigate an ongoing, multistate outbreak of E. coli O121 that may be potentially linked to Gold Medal flour, Wondra flour, and Signature Kitchens flour (sold in Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel, Shaws, Vons, United, Randalls, and Acme). Out of an abundance of caution, a voluntary recall is being made. To date, E. coli O121 has not been found in any General Mills flour products or in the flour manufacturing facility and the company has not been contacted directly by any consumer reporting confirmed illnesses related to these products. State and federal authorities have been researching 38 occurrences of illnesses across 20 states related to a specific type of E. coli (E. coli O121), between December 21, 2015, and May 3, 2016. While attempting to track the cause of the illness, CDC found that approximately half of the individuals reported making something homemade with flour at some point prior to becoming ill. Some reported using a General Mills brand of flour. The recall affects retail flour products that could be currently in stores or in consumers’ pantries. The list of these products may be found here. It includes 6 SKUs (stock keeping units or UPC codes) of Gold Medal Flour, 2 SKU’s of Signature Kitchens Flour and 1 SKU of Gold Medal Wondra flour. These recalled products should be thrown away and consumers with any questions should contact General Mills.   • Mohu Boomboxes Recall: This recall involves all models and serial numbers of the Mohu BeBox smart boombox with built-in Android touchscreen tablet. The boombox can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards. The unit is a black, portable speaker that measures approximately 13 inches in height, 19 inches in width, 5 inches in depth and weighs about 14.5 pounds. It included a power supply 18V@3.5A and 3.5mm shielded stereo auxiliary cable. The front surface is covered in a black, metallic grill and the back of the unit is black plastic. It features a small Mohu logo on the middle, lower front and an embossed Mohu logo on the middle, center back. The recalled products were sold at Huppins audio store in Spokane, Washington, and online at amazon.com, gomohu.com and onecall.com from December 2015 through April 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled boombox, unplug it, keep it powered off and contact Mohu for a box and pre-paid return shipping label to send the recalled unit to Mohu for a full refund.   • LaRose Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Recall: This recall involves two models of LaRose’s Jewelz Gem Creations jewelry making kit and one refill product. The “Slider Bracelet” in the jewelry making kit contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. The UPC Codes and a complete list of products involved in this recall may be found here. The recalled products were sold at Kmart, Toys R Us, Walmart and other retailers sold the Shimmer N’ Sparkle Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Ultimate Gem Machine from August 2015 through April 2016 for $30. Toys R Us, Walmart and other retailers sold the Shimmer N’ Sparkle Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Gem Charm and Slider Bracelets from August 2015 through April 2016 for $10. Target stores sold the My Look Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Ultimate Gem Machine from August 2015 through April 2016 for $30. Consumers should immediately take these recalled products away from children and contact LaRose for instructions to receive a full refund. Recall Date: 06/02/2016
  • Debco Bag Ceramic Mugs Recall: Debco Bag Distributors is recalling its four models of Tonal Thirst ceramic mugs. The mugs handle can break, posing a burn or laceration hazard to consumers. The 12-ounce mugs have a glossy two-tone finish with a white exterior and colored interior with matching colored handles. The mugs were sold in white/black, white/blue, white/lime and white/red color combinations. Some mugs can have promotional logos printed on them when distributed as giveaways. The mugs were sold by Ad Specialty Distributors as a promotional item from August 2015 through April 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ceramic mugs and contact Debco Bag for instructions on receiving a replacement mug. Recall Date: 06/02/2016
  • Square Grove Sit-Stand Desk Converters Recall: This recall involves Square Grove’s Sit-Stand Converters. The model included in the recall is UPL147 and includes the freestand and clamp versions. The pneumatic lifting mechanism can pinch or break fingers during assembly or use, posing a risk of serious injury. The freestand version sits on a desk that raises and lowers a computer monitor and keyboard by 17 inches. The clamp version functions the same, but clamps to the back of the desk. The color of both versions is black. The dimensions for the top platform are about 24 inches in width and 16 inches in diameter. The keyboard platform dimensions are about 24 inches in width and 9 inches in diameter. The freestanding base platform version dimensions are about 20 inches in width and 20 inches in diameter. The clamp mount version dimensions are about 7 inches in width and 18 inches in diameter. The words “UPLIFT DESK” are printed on the product. The recalled product was sold online at www.upliftdesk.com and www.thehumansolution.com from January 2016 through March 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled converters and contact the firm for a free repair kit. Recall Date: 06/02/2016
  • Meadow Gold Dairy Whipping Cream and Half and Half Recall: The Meadow Gold Dairy plant in Boise, Idaho is voluntarily recalling Meadow Gold brand Old Style Whipping Cream and Meadow Gold DairyPure brand Whipping Cream and Half and Half due to insufficient pasteurization. It is possible that pathogens present in raw milk, including Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria, and/or E. coli, may have survived and, if ingested, could cause serious or life threatening issues. Distribution of the affected products was limited so consumers should only be concerned with products with the Universal Product Codes listed here and plant code 16-05. The recall involves approximately 10,000 units of the affected products, which was distributed in four states including Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming and Utah through numerous retail outlets and food service settings. The company is actively notifying customers and is in the process of retrieving the affected product. Consumers who have this product should not consume it. They should discard it and may return the product package to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. Recall Date: 06/01/2016
  • Frontera Foods Taco Skillet Sauce Recall: Frontera Foods of Chicago, Illinois is expanding their recall to an additional 1,314 (8 oz.) packages of its Frontera Texas Original Taco Skillet Saucebecause it contains undeclared soy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The recalled Frontera Texas Original Taco Skillet Sauce packages were only distributed to the following 7 states; California, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Nevada and Utah. A list of the store locations within these states may be found here. The product comes in a printed 8 oz. pouch that is marked with a “BEST BY” date of “13 APR 17” on the bottom off the back side of the package. The UPC code for the recalled product is: 6-04183-12170-7. This recall was voluntarily issued by the company after it discovered that the label on the product did not accurately reflect the ingredients. The company has since corrected the problem and has initiated corrective actions to prevent its reoccurrence. Consumers who have purchased 8 oz. packages of Frontera Texas Original Taco Skillet Sauce with a “BEST BY” date of “13 APR 17” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 06/01/2016
  • Hillsdale Furniture Children’s Bunk Beds Recall: Hillsdale Furniture is recalling its Chadwick children’s bunk beds. The bunk bed’s side mattress support rails can crack or break, posing a fall hazard. The wooden bunk beds were sold in white (model 1030), mission oak (models 1245 and 1589) and in a twin over full combination. All models were available with the option of either: a storage drawer, a trundle or nothing under the lower bunk. Hillsdale Furniture, Made in Vietnam and the model number appear on a label affixed to the inside of the bed rail or foot board. The bunk beds were sold exclusively at Bob’s Discount Furniture stores nationwide and online at www.MyBobs.com from August 2010 through July 2014. Consumers should immediately stop using the bunk beds and contact Hillsdale Furniture to arrange for the free installation of free replacement rails by Bob’s Discount Furniture. Bob’s Discount Furniture is contacting known customers directly. Recall Date: 06/02/2016
  • Clif Bar Energy and Trail Mix Bars Recall:  Clif Bar & Company is initiating a voluntary recall of CLIF BAR® Nuts & Seeds energy bars, CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bars, and CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® trail mix bars, sold nationally, after its ingredient supplier, SunOpta, was found to have distributed sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono). Clif Bar has not received any reports of illness; however, the company is initiating the voluntary recall in an abundance of caution. Only the flavors meeting the following criteria are affected by the recall: CLIF BAR® Nuts & Seeds energy bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 08JUN16 through 21JAN17; CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 05JUN16 through 24MAR17; CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® trail mix bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 16JUN16 through 02FEB17. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. People who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged not to consume the products and to destroy it. All retailers who received the products are being contacted. Recall Date: 06/02/2016
  • Windy Acres Sunflower Seeds and Trail Mix Recall: Windy Acres Candy & Nut Company under the advice from its supplier, SunOpta, Crookston, MN, is voluntarily recalling Windy Acres No Salt Sunflower Seeds, Windy Acres Fruity Trail Mix & Jungle Jim’s Roast No Salt Sunflower Seeds due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The products were distributed from Windy Acres between the dates of February 23, 2016 and May 24, 2016. Shipments were to the following states: IN, KY and OH. No illnesses have been reported to date but in an abundance of caution Windy Acres is recalling all affected products. The products involved in this recall are: Jungle Jim’s Roast No Salt Sunflower Seeds 16 oz. with UPC 082987058748; Windy Acres Fruity Trail Mix 7 oz. with UPC 082987020165; Windy Acres No Salt Sunflower Seeds 8 oz. with UPC 082987301721. Consumers are urged not to consume these products. Consumers who purchased these products may take them back to the store where they purchased them for a refund or simply discard them. Recall Date: 06/02/2016
  • Kiddy USA and Graco Child Booster Seats Recall: Kiddy USA (Kiddy) is recalling certain World Plus combination forward facing child restraints that convert to a high back booster seat, model 51 100 WP, manufactured from July 2, 2012, through October 5, 2013. The buckle/tongue on the affected booster seats may only partially engage. As a result, the consumer may have a false impression that the buckle is fully latched when it is not. As such, these seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 213, “Child Restraint Systems.” A partially engaged buckle will not adequately restrain the child in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The remedy for this recall is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Kiddy customer service at 1-855-92KIDDY (1-855-925-4339). Graco Children’s Products Inc. (Graco) is recalling certain Graco TurboBooster booster seats, models 1967886, 1963973, 1963974, 1963975, 1963976, and 1975173, manufactured between December 22, 2015, and April 5, 2016. The instructions for the booster seats are missing the information that the seats should be securely belted to the vehicle at all times, even if the seat is unoccupied. As such, these seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 213, “Child Restraint Systems.” In the event of a vehicle crash, an unoccupied and unsecured child restraint may strike other occupants and cause injury. Graco will notify registered owners and provide the missing printed instructions, free of charge. Non-registered owners can obtain the missing printed instructions by contacting Graco customer service at 1-800-345-4109. The recall is expected to begin on, or about, June 10, 2016.   • Bayou Brothers Creole Sauce Recall: Bayou Brothers of Austin, Texas is recalling its 33 oz. jars of its Bayou Brothers Creole Sauce because it contains undeclared fish. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The recalled Bayou Brothers Creole Sauce jars were only distributed in the state of Texas. The product comes in a labeled 33 oz. jar that is coded with a “Best By” Date code of “23MAR17” through “18MAY18”. The UPC code for the recalled product is: 91037 60907. No illnesses have been reported to date and there are no other safety concerns for people who do not have a fish allergy. This recall was voluntarily issued by the company after it discovered that the label on the product did not accurately reflect the ingredients. The company has since corrected the problem and has initiated corrective actions to prevent its reoccurrence. Consumers who have purchased 33 oz. jars of Bayou Brothers Creole Sauce are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 06/03/2016
