Pretrial Order Issued Over Claims Deadline Against Stryker Orthopedics

Stryker hip lawsuit attorneys note that Stryker Orthopedics, maker of the Rejuvenate Modular Hip System, has agreed to pay more than $1.45 billion to settle more than 5,000 lawsuits alleging that patients had to undergo corrective surgery after their metal on metal hip implants failed. Following that Stryker settlement, a number of extensions were made to the deadline for filing claims, and it appears as if the deadline may be extended again.

Many Patients Allegedly Suffer Revision Surgeries

Many of those who were included in the more than 5,000 lawsuits against Stryker Corp. fell into one of two categories. Some allegedly experienced failed hip implants and had to have corrective hip surgery as a result, while others allegedly developed metallosis from the hip system, a medical condition that results when metal debris begins to build up within the body’s soft tissue.

Initially, affected patients had to provide proof by December 2014 that they underwent corrective surgery prior to Nov. 3, 2014 to be eligible for a potential Stryker settlement of as much as $300,000 per affected hip. The deadline was then extended to early March 2015, and then to late March 2015. Finally, the determination was made that plaintiffs must provide the court with the details of their revisions surgeries within 45 days of the late March deadline.
