The researchers identified a few factors that predicted the likelihood of complications after transvaginal mesh placement. The risk of medical issues was 27 percent lower for women whose surgeons performed the implant procedure more frequently. Complications also were less common among women who had only received one transvaginal mesh implant. The study found that additional implant procedures were associated with an enhanced risk of adverse outcomes.
The researchers also observed that the danger of complications appeared to increase with the passage of time. The study, which only followed patients for a decade, might have indicated different health outcomes in an extended study period, the website reported.
