What is Paxil?
Paxil is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Paxil affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and is used to treat depression, obsessive–compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, post–traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Paxil in 1992 for the treatment of depression.

In 2004, the FDA required all antidepressant manufacturers to add a black box to the label warning about an increased risk of suicidal tendencies in children and teenagers who take antidepressants.
