Attorney: Severe Spinal Injuries Suffered by Plaintiff as Plane Skidded Over 2,000 Feet

An attorney for a man suing Southwest Airlines for injuries that allegedly incurred in a 2013 incident is referencing a similar, more recent runway incident in Nashville, Tennessee, in making his case for the defendant. According to Reuters, among the questions raised by the lawsuit filed in a Queens County, New York, court are whether Southwest’s aircraft are properly maintained and whether its pilots are adequately trained.

The lawsuit states that a July 2013 botched landing at LaGuardia Airport caused the victim to suffer severe spinal injuries, an allegation Southwest has yet to respond to publicly. The company did, however, terminate the pilot commandeering the plane after the incident occurred. Additional lawsuit details reveal that the defendant attributes his injuries to the fact that the plane’s front landing gear bore the brunt of the impact from landing, which it was not intended to do, leading the plane to skid several thousand feet, the website reported.
