Since its initial announcement, the Blue Bell recall now includes frozen snacks, sherbet, frozen yogurt, and ice cream manufactured at all Blue Bell facilities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of April 20, a total of 10 patients have reportedly been infected. Illness onset dates ranged from January 2015 back to January 2010, and all 10 patients reportedly required hospitalization.

Listeria can cause bacterial meningitis, an infection of the covering of the spinal cord and brain that causes convulsions, confusion, and headaches. Pregnant women, people with depressed immune systems, the elderly, and children are most vulnerable. While the onset of listeriosis symptoms can take up to two months , symptoms typically start within a few days.
