Cell phone giant T-Mobile has agreed to pay medical expenses and replace a faulty cell phone after an accident involving the device left an Illinois teenager with second-degree burns. Fox News reports that a member of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission classified the incident as “really serious.” He also noted that such injuries are more likely to occur when consumers use cell phone chargers and batteries they purchase through third-party vendors, although this wasn’t the case in this instance.
The mother of the 13-year-old burn victim said her daughter was using a brand-new T-Mobile phone while it was charging when the incident occurred, leaving her with severe burns to her neck that left her screaming in pain. Reports indicate that the metal necklace the victim was wearing caught an electric current that had passed through the wall and through her cell phone, causing the burns, the website reported.
