Students Allege Blood Poisoning And High Fever After Chemical Burn Injury

An alleged error made by a high school employee led to chemical burns for as many as 40 Silver Spring, Maryland, football players, many of which were serious in nature. According to WJLA, Montgomery County Public Schools now faces two lawsuits filed by five students alleging the school system has been insufficient in compensating them for their injuries and pain and suffering.

The plaintiffs claimed that they suffered serious chemical burns after a school custodian washed their football uniforms in a product known as Virex 256, which is intended for cleaning blood and other bodily fluids. Affected students reported a range of troubling side effects sometime after donning the uniforms, from blood poisoning to high fever. Some students expressed dismay over the fact that they could no longer participate in athletics because of the injuries they suffered due to the incident. The two lawsuits, which cover five injured athletes, are each asking for more than $75,000 in damages, the website reported.
