Report: Cancer Research Agency Suggests Roundup Ingredient is “Possibly Carcinogenic”

According to cbsnews.com, the plaintiff claims that she would use her backpack sprayer full of Roundup once a week on her one-acre property. She alleges that the product made her sick and she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2013. The plaintiff’s attorney claims that Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup, makes a dangerous product that contains glyphosate. This ingredient in Roundup is “possibly carcinogenic” according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) – a division of the World Health Organization. IARC’s report says that glyphosate caused cancer in lab tests on animals and found that the chemical damaged DNA in human cells.

After her five-month battle with the disease and intensive chemotherapy, the plaintiff’s cancer is now in remission. However, her battle against the product that allegedly made her sick continues. Monsanto claims that the chemical does not cause cancer and is confident in the safety of their product. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently in the process of evaluating glyphosate, a standard procedure for chemicals every 15 years. A spokesperson for the agency states that they are taking IARC’s report into consideration and that a review of the chemical should be complete by the end of 2016, the website reported.
