Lawsuits: Xarelto Bleeding Risks Could Have Been Minimized

A Xarelto bleeding injury attorney notes that the first bellwether trials involving patients who claim they were harmed by the drug may begin in summer 2017. Lawsuits allege that marketers of the drug emphasized ease-of-use of the medication in an effort to enhance sales. Affected patients and their families may be eligible to file a lawsuit and recover compensation for their injuries with the assistance of a Xarelto lawsuit attorney.

Xarelto Bellwether Trials Could Begin as Early as Summer 2017

In addition to Xarelto claims being processed in a Louisiana court, over 700 cases have been filed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Complex Litigation Center alleging that the prescription blood thinner causes severe and uncontrollable bleeding. According to the Penn Record, plaintiffs claim that they were never made aware of the drug’s ties to gastrointestinal and cranial bleeding. Furthermore, many plaintiffs say they were informed they could take the drug only once daily, when taking it twice daily could have allegedly lessened associated risks.

Some attribute the anticipated spike in related lawsuits to a report in The New York Times, and some are noting similarities between the upcoming Xarelto litigation and past litigation involving another popular blood thinner, Pradaxa. In both cases, marketing for the drugs emphasized their ease-of-use, perhaps trying to strengthen appeal for them in opposition to other blood thinners such as Coumadin (also known as warfarin), which required close monitoring. Unlike Xarelto, Coumadin had an antidote in the event that it caused uncontrollable bleeding. A request for more information by federal regulators reportedly continues to delay the approval of a proposed Xarelto reversal agent.
