Over 3,000 Women To Receive Settlements
Bard Medical has agreed to settlements of about $67,000 each to more than 3,000 women who allege that they suffered injuries from the company’s TVM implants. According to Bloomberg.com, plaintiffs allege that the mesh is prone to issues such as shrinkage and erosion, which can result in pain, organ damage and other serious complications.
In 2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) instructed Bard and several other producers of the devices to study injury rates among patients who received mesh implants. Despite these developments many companies, including Bard, still maintain that their devices are safe.
The August 2015 settlement is valued at over $200 million and more settlements may be offered in the future as the judge overseeing the litigation against Bard has advised the company to consider using large-scale settlements to resolve the thousands of pelvic mesh lawsuits that are still outstanding, the website reported.
Women who have suffered complications from a TVM implant are encouraged to contact a transvaginal mesh lawsuit attorney to learn more about their options for filing a TVM lawsuit.
