Although Black Friday can bring out the best in people looking for good deals for loved ones or family members, shoppers eager to take advantage of Thanksgiving and Black Friday deals brawled in stores across the country this year as retailers prepared for an increasing number of crowds. If you or someone you love were inadvertently harmed by another party, you may instead consider working with a personal injury lawyer who can help you to file for compensation for your injuries.
Black Friday Violence Rampant
In Las Vegas, Nevada, after buying a big screen television late Thanksgiving evening, a shopper was shot as he attempted to take his purchase home, according to the local police department. As the victim was walking through his complex, a suspect approached him and fired warning shots, causing the victim to release the television. As the thief attempted to load the television into a vehicle, the victim approached him and tried to take the television back, but the suspect fired two additional shots and struck the victim in the leg.
Shoppers started arriving at a Kohl’s in Chicago, Illinois early Friday morning just hours after a police officer shot the driver of a car that was dragging another officer. According to witnesses, the first officer was responding to a call of alleged shoplifting and was chasing a fleeing suspect to his car when the suspect began to drive the car as the officer was partially inside, dragging the officer. The backup officer then shot the driver of the car, and both the dragged officer and the driver were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Three people were placed under arrest.
In a Wal-Mart parking lot in Rialto, California, three individuals began to fight because shoppers were allegedly cutting in line, according to a police officer. Two people were taken into custody, and a police officer suffered an unknown minor injury.
In Claypool Hill, West Virginia, Black Friday violence occurred when a man was slashed to the bone with a knife after he allegedly threatened another man with a gun while arguing over a parking spot at Wal-Mart, according to the county sheriff. Both individuals faced charges for the incident.
A shopper was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer at a Wal-Mart in New Jersey after the customer allegedly got into an argument with a store manager about a television set. According to police officers, they arrived at the scene, pacified the customer and charged the customer with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Shopping Not Always Simple and Carefree
Unfortunately, even the most outrageous things such as Black Friday violence can happen even when you are doing something as simple as shopping for a good deal for the holidays. If you have been injured as the result of Black Friday violence, consider seeking legal counsel from a personal injury lawyer who can inform you of your rights.
If you are a victim of Black Friday violence or if something happens to you at the fault or negligence of another, even something as out-of-the-ordinary as the extreme cases previously mentioned, a personal injury lawyer can review your case, evaluate the situation and determine whether you have a valid claim. You may be entitled to hold the other party, or even the store where incident occurred, accountable for your injuries with the help of a personal injury lawyer and recover damages including pain and suffering, lost wages and medical costs, depending on the type and severity of your injury.
