Flying Club, Plane Owner and Pilot Also Named In Lawsuit
The Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, is among the defendants in a lawsuit filed after a small plane crash resulted in the deaths of four students, according to Fox 8. The other defendants named in the wrongful death suit include the flying club from which the plane was rented, the owner of the plane, and the young pilot who was operating the aircraft at the time of the crash.
The students on the aircraft were embarking on a sight-seeing tour from Cuyahoga County Airport when the plane crashed during take-off. The family believes that the flight may have been part of recruitment for the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity on campus. However the fraternity released the following statement:
“The Fraternity continues to mourn the tragic loss of life resulting from this accident. However, the claims made against the Fraternity in this lawsuit are wholly meritless and the Fraternity intends to vigorously defend those claims. Out of respect for the victims and due to the pending litigation, the Fraternity will have no further comment on this matter.”
The plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial, but no date has been set, the website reported.
