Lawsuit Alleges Man Developed Rare Cancer After Using Roundup

A Roundup cancer attorney notes a lawsuit in which the plaintiff claims to have developed a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after using the popular herbicide on a regular basis for many years. Although Monsanto was reportedly aware of the dangers associated with Roundup, they continued to market and promote the product as safe. Manufacturer Reportedly Continued to Market Roundup as a Safe Product

A man claims to have developed a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after years of spraying Roundup herbicide on a regular basis. According to a lawsuit filed in December 2016, Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup, failed to provide adequate warning with regards to the risks allegedly related to the exposure of two ingredients in Roundup, glyphosate and polyethoxylated tallow amine. As a result, the plaintiff claims to have incurred significant economic and non-economic damages after his diagnosis with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, is regulated under federal law and is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency. However, since the early 1980s, Monsanto has allegedly known of the dangers associated with the use of products containing glyphosate, including Roundup. After conducting and coordinating research into the possible causes of cancer, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic in humans” in March 2015. Despite these findings and Monsanto’s reported knowledge of the dangers associated with Roundup, the manufacturer continued to promote the product as safe.

How a Roundup Cancer Attorney Can Help

Makers of herbicides have a duty to sell products that are free from defects and that are not unreasonably dangerous. If a product poses a risk of serious injury, the manufacturer must provide adequate warnings of the danger. Failure to do this can make the manufacturer legally responsible for injuries caused by the product, and people harmed may be entitled to compensation, including:

  • Medical expenses
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of income or ability to work

If a loved one dies as a result of exposure to Roundup herbicide, his or her family members may be able to pursue compensation for the wrongful death of their loved one.
