Report: Some Residents Neglected For Days and Even Weeks

According to Morningstar.com, a class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of hundreds of residents of Alzheimer’s and dementia care units owned and operated by Saber Healthcare Group. The lawsuit claims that Saber failed to provide assisted living services that meets the minimum needs of the residents and that Saber has a policy of understaffing its facilities.

The April 2016 lawsuit was filed in North Carolina and names three Saber adult care homes in the suit. The lawsuit follows an investigation by the North Carolina Division of Health Services Regulation of Saber’s facilities and found a number of violations of North Carolina law, including repeated failure to meet state mandated minimum staffing requirements. The lawsuit contains details of the state’s investigations of some of Saber facilities including residents left to sit for hours, or even days in their own waste, not bathed for weeks, locked in or out of their rooms, not provided with food or housekeeping services, and not provided with medications in a timely manner.

Saber Healthcare Group is based in Ohio and owns and operates 83 skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in six states across the U.S., including Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, the website reported.
