NTSB Investigators Probe Seared Axle

According to cnn.com, the deadly crash occurred when the amphibious tour vehicle, also known as a duck boat, swerved into the side of the bus. The duck boat was carrying more than 30 tourists, while the bus had 45 international students and school employees on board.

NTSB investigators have discovered that the duck boat had an axle that was sheared completely off, but the agency has yet to determine when the axle broke and whether it was a factor in the accident. As investigators continue to put the sequence of events together, the website reported that the drivers of both vehicles involved had yet to be interviewed by investigators.

Injured Drivers or Passengers May Be Entitled to Compensation

Bus and tour vehicle drivers and owners have a duty to operate and maintain their vehicles in a safe manner. If they negligently fail to do so and an accident results, those who are injured may be entitled to compensation for damages resulting from an injury, including:

  • Medical expenses
  • Loss of income or ability to work
  • Pain, suffering, and mental anguish resulting from the injury

If a driver or passenger is killed in an accident involving a bus or any tour vehicle, his or her family members may be able to pursue compensation for the wrongful death of their loved one. Wrongful death damages can include:

  • Loss of relationship or financial support of a loved one
  • Mental anguish, and pain and suffering from the loss of a loved one
  • Funeral expenses
  • Conscious pain and suffering of a loved one prior to death

Accidents, such as the Seattle bus accident, often present complicated issues, such as determining all potential responsible parties, and negotiating fair and reasonable compensation for injuries and other damages is likewise often difficult. People who have been injured in a bus or tour vehicle accident are advised to seek a qualified personal injury attorney to help them protect their legal rights.
