Driver and Passenger Allegedly Injured While Parking in Garage

Adding to other reports involving Tesla vehicles and their features, a lawsuit has been filed in the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California alleging that a Tesla Model X suddenly accelerated forward as the driver pulled into his driveway one night in September 2016. According to Reuters, the lawsuit states that the vehicle jerked forward and unexpectedly began to accelerate as the driver was parking, causing the car to crash into his garage. The driver and passenger were allegedly injured as a result of the accident.

The automaker has already faced scrutiny after several accidents have reportedly been linked to the Tesla autopilot feature, including at least two fatal accidents. Filed on December 30, 2016, the lawsuit seeks class action status, citing seven other complaints regarding unexplained sudden acceleration by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Introduced in late 2015, the Tesla Model X is the car company’s first SUV and was marketed as the safest SUV in history, the website reported.
