A Viagra melanoma lawsuit has been filed by the family of a deceased man against Pfizer, Inc. alleging his fatal melanoma was caused by use of Viagra. The lawsuit, filed on April 2, 2015 in Madison County Circuit Court, alleges that Pfizer failed to disclose risks associated with use of the drug, including the risk that the drug can lead to deadly cancer.

Pfizer Allegedly Failed to Disclose Risks
Attorneys note that the decedent took Viagra for erectile dysfunction from 2000 until 2007. He died in 2008 as a result of metastatic mucosal melanoma, and the Viagra melanoma lawsuit filed on his behalf of his family alleges that the drug maker failed to adequately warn of the risks of the disease. His estate also claims that the man would not have taken Viagra for as long as he did if he was informed of the potential risks.
Other allegations include fraudulent concealment, product liability, misrepresentation, breach of implied and express warranty, negligence, fraud, violation of consumer protection laws, and gross negligence, and seeks punitive damages in addition to compensatory damages.
Study Shows Link Between Viagra and Increased Risk of Melanoma
A study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2014 that examined men from 2000-2010. The results showed that use of Viagra was associated with a 1.84-increased risk of melanoma skin cancer, nearly double the risk of those who did not take Viagra.
