Viagra melanoma lawyers note a news report of a 10-year study of approximately 25,000 men that showed a Viagra link to melanoma. Viagra, which is made by Pfizer, was the first erectile dysfunction medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It has been the basis of lawsuits alleging that it causes melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. Patients also claim that Pfizer failed to disclose the risks associated with Viagra.

Study of Over 25,000 Men Shows Link Between Viagra and Melanoma
According to a CBS Pittsburgh report, researchers followed over 25,000 male health professionals for a period of 10 years to gather data for the study. They looked specifically for men who developed melanoma and whether or not they took Viagra. The study results showed that there was no link between erectile dysfunction and an increased risk of melanoma, but it did show that men who used Viagra were twice as likely to develop the deadly skin cancer.
While some believe that the link between Viagra and melanoma may be due to Viagra patients being more likely to venture out into the sun or be more active, the study did not show an increased risk for types of skin cancer other than melanoma. Many patients have filed Viagra melanoma lawsuits claiming that Viagra causes the deadly skin cancer, and that the drug makers failed to disclose the risks of Viagra to the public. In some cases, widows have pursued claims on behalf of their deceased husbands.
Injured Patients May Be Entitled to Compensation
Drug makers have a duty to provide safe drugs. If there are risks that may pose dangers to patients, drug makers must provide adequate warnings. Failure to fulfill that duty may result in a drug maker being held liable for injuries.
Patients who have taken Viagra and developed melanoma may be eligible to recover compensation for damages such as medical expenses, scarring or disfigurement from skin cancer or medical treatment, pain and suffering, and loss of income or ability to work.
If a Viagra patient dies from melanoma, his family members may be able to pursue claims for wrongful death compensation, including mental anguish from the loss of a loved one, conscious pain and suffering of a loved one prior to death, and loss of a loved one’s financial support.
