VW Emissions Class Action: Leadership Named

The U.S. District Court Judge presiding over the Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litigation (also known as the VW emissions class action) has named 22 attorneys to leadership positions on behalf of consumers affected by the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal. The plaintiffs’ leadership will oversee the details of the lawsuit and make assignments for attorneys involved in the litigation.  Affected consumers are still eligible to pursue a claim for compensation against the automaker.

Lead Counsel Chosen for VW Emissions Class Action

An Order entered by U.S. District judge Charles Breyer named a San Francisco attorney as lead plaintiff’s counsel in the case, which is also pending in San Francisco. Twenty-one other attorneys from across the country were named to leadership as members of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. Leadership counsel for the VW Emissions Class Action will be responsible to:

  • Establish and maintain a depository for orders, pleadings, hearing transcripts, and all documents served upon plaintiffs’ counsel, and make such papers available to plaintiffs’ counsel upon reasonable request.
  • Designate counsel to schedule depositions, set agendas and otherwise interact with defense counsel, Government counsel, various plaintiffs’ counsel, and the settlement master.

The number of lawyers appointed to leadership was deemed appropriate by the Court “given the amount of work this litigation may entail and the need for an expeditious resolution of the matter.”

Affected Consumers May Be Entitled to Compensation

The actions of Volkswagen are alleged to have impacted the safety and value of affected automobiles. Consumers who have purchased those vehicles could be entitled to compensation for their losses, including reduced value of their car and the costs of any repairs needed, as well as statutory damages for violations of multiple state and federal laws.

Numerous lawsuits have been filed against Volkswagen, and affected consumers are encouraged to speak with a VW emissions class action attorney to learn more about their rights and remedies.
