Study Links Xarelto Use To Eye Bleeding

Xarelto lawsuit attorneys continue to pursue claims on behalf of patients who have suffered uncontrollable bleeding while taking the anticoagulant drug Xarelto. Now, a new study links Xarelto use to eye bleeding, further calling into question the safety of the drug.  Scientists conducting research into Xarelto’s side effects have reportedly discovered a link between the drug and a possible increase in stomach bleeds and eye hemorrhaging.

Study: Xarelto Linked to Eye Bleeding

The study found that patients in their 70s and 80s who had taken Xarelto after transitioning from warfarin experienced a type of eye bleeding known as vitreous hemorrhages. Because this particular side effect was linked to patients who had transitioned from warfarin to rivaroxaban (the generic name for Xarelto), researchers seek to make medical professionals aware of this potential side effect.

Other Xarelto Risks

Although the risk of bleeding is a known side effect of blood thinners, patients who have brought lawsuits against the makers of Xarelto also claim that the drug causes a significantly higher risk of potentially fatal hemorrhaging that cannot be stopped or controlled. The drug now comes with warnings about the risk of bleeding related injuries on its label. Some patients claim to have suffered complications from taking Xarelto right after having surgery.

Injured Patients May Be Entitled to Compensation

Drug makers have a duty to provide safe drugs. If there are risks present that could potentially cause harm, it is also the duty of drug makers to warn patients. Failure to fulfill these duties could result in the drug makers being held liable for injuries to patients.

Patients who are injured by Xarelto may be entitled to compensation, which can include:

  • Medical expenses
  • Loss of income or ability to work
  • Pain and suffering

If a patient dies from complications after taking Xarelto, family members may be entitled to compensation for the wrongful death of a loved one, including:

  • Mental anguish
  • Conscious pain and suffering of the loved one prior to death
  • Loss of financial support or companionship
  • Medical expenses attributable to the fatal injury
